A 25-year-old woman from Manipur was molested by two local youth in Sikandarpur, police said on Sunday. Police said she works in a spa and is a resident of Sikandarpur. She had gone to a nearby market to buy household items on Friday night with her husband.
At around 10 pm, while they were walking towards the market, two youth grabbed her in front of her husband started misbehaving with her.
“While they were on their way to a shop, the two accused grabbed the girl and molested her,” said Gurvinder Singh, station house officer of DLF Phase 1 police station in Gurgaon.
“The woman’s husband protested and tried to intervene. He also raised an alarm, which alerted people in the area,” the officer said.
According to Singh, a man came to their rescue and tried to free the woman from the miscreants.
“The husband and the man who came to help chased the accused for some distance, but other locals sided with the miscreants,” said Singh. “All of them started beating up the two men.”
According to said Madhu Chandra, spokesperson of North-East Support Centre and Helpline in Delhi, both men were indeed beaten up by locals. While the fight was on, police reached the spot and managed to rescue them.
“When the woman and her husband went to police station and narrated the incident, police refused to file a molestation case.
“Police said it was a fight between two groups and not molestation,” alleged Chandra.However, the couple managed to file a complaint. “Both men were taken to hospital for treatment,” said Chandra.
“After we got the complaint, we registered a case of molestation against unknown youth,” said Singh.
